THE PRIMARY SOURCE OF FUNDING
Heaven’s Kitchen will host a quarterly covered plate dinner sale to honor Mr. Robin’s passion for cooking for others. The events will serve as the primary source of income to support the Stepping Stones Fund. Every event will feature a unique menu, guest chef, and premier sponsor. Community participation will be crucial to making these events successful.
Our goal is to provide an innovative experience to the fundraising event. Dinner tickets will be available for online pre-orders and payment, on-site digital payment options, car side transactions, and digital advertising and media. Most importantly providing a great meal from experienced chefs and volunteers.

CHris Francis
Guest Chef for Fall Dinner Sale
“Raised in Sunset, LA I grew up eating rice and gravy. My parents and grandparents often had a big dark gravy ready for family events and most weeknights. I came to love the smell of browning meat in the kitchen which piqued my interest at a young age. Many hours were spent hovering over their shoulder watching the pot get stirred. As an adult, I commonly volunteered to cook for our friend group when we would have gatherings. Over the years, I often would exchange ideas with great cooks which has helped me along the way. I have spent hours browning meats, stirring roux, and standing over a pot of gravy. This experience and being known for cooking is how I got into cooking jambalaya. I was volunteered, by my lovely wife, to cook a jambalaya for a teachers’ event. Unbeknownst to her, at that time, I had never cooked a jambalaya before. I quickly matched my wits with several good cooks that I knew and came up with a recipe. This has been refined over the years to be tried and true for a good serving. This has led to cooking many large events over the years and I look forward to cooking this years event!”

Chef Donavan Lewis
Guest Chef for Spring Dinner Sale
BLAQ89 South’s Chef Donavan Lewis will be the featured guest chef at Heaven’s Kitchen’s upcoming dinner sale. Originally from Opelousas, LA, Chef Lewis has been honing his culinary skills for the past decade. BLAQ89 South’s catering company, which he launched two years ago, is focused on creating unique dishes that merge south Louisiana’s cultural cuisine with others.
While Chef Lewis did not initially plan to become a chef, he fell in love with cooking while working as a pastry chef on an offshore rig. After catering for a group of visiting Swedish workers and receiving rave reviews, he became passionate about exploring food’s role in cultural identity. Chef Lewis has since made it his mission to create culturally relevant and tasty meals by researching traditional dishes from various cultures and incorporating feedback from individuals with diverse backgrounds.
He is thrilled to be the first guest chef ever selected by Heaven’s Kitchen, recognizing the significant impact this opportunity will have on the Opelousas community. Chef Lewis was inspired to participate in the event after working with Seth Robin many years ago at Benny’s Supermarket, where he had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Keith and learning about his passion for cooking and helping others.
“God gave me a talent to cook, and I want to use that talent to support the mission of Heaven’s Kitchen. Mr. Keith’s legacy and personality inspired me. You learn more about people sometimes based on how people speak about you. And I heard how selflessly he gave of his time and work. He was a man of humility, a man of character and compassion for others. I’m not doing this for recognition but to honor him and do something that he did and for the same reason. If you give something that you can’t get back it can hold more value. Time is something that you give and can’t get back. But having the opportunity to be in the moment and devote the time to see something succeed and grow is rewarding.”
Chef Lewis will prepare Crawfish Étouffée for the upcoming Spring Heavens Kitchen Dinner Sale on March 17th. Tickets for the event can be purchased online at heavenskitchen.org or in person. Chef Lewis can be contacted at donjay@blaq89cateringandevents.com. The board of directors at Heaven’s Kitchen is grateful for Chef Lewis’s dedication to this event.
